Zombies & Manga

Here is my favorite New Book Combo.

As I have stated before, I am constantly re-working and reorganizing the New Book Displays.  I always try to find new combos that might catch students' eyes.  If zombies paired with Manga doesn't work--and CLASSIC Manga at that--I don't know what will.

On a personal note, these are also two genres I need to get way more familiar with before my first official job.  I have to brush up on these in order to do good Readers Advisory.   I have not read any Manga, but I'll get the chance in two weeks for my Comics Readers Advisory Class.  I've only read one zombie novel, Carrie Ryan's The Forest of Hands and Teeth.  I enjoyed it immensely, but I never read the next two in the series.  I feel like I need to start over with Hands and Teeth before moving on to finish the trilogy.  I am currently reading The Walking Dead for my Young Adult Literature class, and I do not like it.  It is too dark and depressing for me.  I am glad I've read some it, though, so I know what students are reading and enjoying.

I better get to more reading now!  Zombies and Manga...here I come!

More New Book Fun

Here is one of my favorite New Book rows yet.  I call this Spirals, Bows, & Arrows.

If you want to learn more about one of these awesome titles, here are some links that will help you decide if you want to check them out from your library:

Ghosts of Heaven
Heir of Fire
Mortal Heart
The Universe Versus Alex Woods

What pairing fun have you been having in your library???

Display Fun

I think the best part about working in a library is finding new books to skim, marvel at, and dream about.  It is also fun fitting these into our New Books Displays.

We still have our New Book Overflow section, so that makes two new book spaces in the Uni High Library.  It's my job to place them on the displays after I've posted them to the new book blog.

This week I've had fun grouping...

new memoirs:

kick ass girls:

"romances":

U.S struggles, controversies, and identity:

And, all together now:

What a great week to be a Uni High Library grad assistant!

It's That Time of Year

Yes indeedy.  It IS that time of year.  So many commitments: final papers to write, books to read, presents to wrap, things to do...but life would be boring without a little stress to keep you on your toes, no?

All of sudden November's over, and December's already in its ninth day!  Since my last post, we've celebrated Thanksgiving, an anniversary, and two December birthdays at our house.  I've been busy around the Uni Library, too.  (Maybe too busy?  I really need to finish a couple of papers, but I keep finding things to think about/do in the Dragon's Lair.)

Our monthly bulletin board and circ desk have been updated:

There's been another successful Game Day:

MORE new books have been put on overflow display:

Awww, SNAP.  One's already gone.  Nice.

Another newsletter has been published detailing our December events, AND two displays have been created (more on those later).  PHEW!  THAT'S A LOT!

Oh, it's still so much fun, guys.  I'm so, SO lucky to be working at this library, if only for a year.  I get to stretch my creativity with bulletin boards, dream up displays that I hope will get students' attentions (and draw them into more pleasure reading and less studying...MUWAHAHA!!!), I get to hone my research skills as I help students learn theirs, and I get to learn and work with consummate professionals, like Amy and Paul.  This is the sweetest graduate assistantship EVER, and I'm VERY thankful for it during this time of year (no matter how busy I get!).
